I just wanted to take the time to say a proper thank you for the hospitality you showed me during my stay at Val's Backpacker Hostel.
I rode into town on my motorbike after two months on the road and was looking for a rest from my own holiday/ adventure. I was only going to stay for a night, possibly two, but ended up staying for four nights, only leaving because I had to move on to Guatemala.
After my stay with you, I feel fully rested and ready to tackle anything!
So, what makes your place so good? To me, it's a subtle combination of the following factors: clean and secure accommodation- something that cannot be underestimated when travelling, especially when backpacking or with a bike, as there are so many places that can sometimes feel quite threatening, especially to solo travelleres. Secondly, a safe place for a motorbike - your dogs took great pride in taking on this role and I am very grateful; thirdly, the setting -
opening the door on the morning and looking straight out onto the Caribbean sunrise is just not to be missed, neither is sitting with a beer and watching pelicans dive-bomb their dinner.
But above all this, and even above free Internet (something for which I was very grateful) is the relaxed, warm way you and your family run the place - you knew I was tired, so put up a hammock for me without even asking - but without ever intruding. A difficult balance, but you've certainly got it right.
